Democratic Initiatives Foundation organized the roundtable “Local Elections Have Been Held: What`s Next?”. The participants discussed possible influence which the results of local elections might have on the future of Ukraine and its political system.
Director of Democratic Initiatives Foundation and event moderator Iryna Bekeshkina stressed that Ukraine nowadays does not have a stable political system. Since 2007 only two political parties have survived. They are “Batkivshchyna” and “Svoboda”. Both parties participated in the parliamentary elections and could be considered to be stable, although both parties had their failures.
The experts also noticed that support of the pro-Russian political parties has decreased, while support of the pro-European forces has strengthened.
