The Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting has published the new issue of Monthly Economic Monitor Ukraine No.10 (180). The highlight of the publication is an acute for a few Ukrainians topic Winter is coming.

 

According to the Institute`s experts, the coming heating season of October 2015 – April 2016 may be the most challenging season for the Ukrainian energy sector since Ukraine’s independence. Each subsector of energy sector (coal sector, electricity generation, and gas sector) has its own challenges in addition to the general problems like military conflict in the East, currency depreciation, debt accumulation, and high inflation. Tackling those challenges is essential for the smooth passing of the coming heating season.

Razumkov Centre conducted research about the state budget deficit in Ukraine and compared Ukrainian situation with the examples from the world practise. The research laid basis to the recently issued analytical report Taking on Debts and Giving Debts Back. Global Trends and Ukrainian Challenges.

 

Ukraine for a long time has been using extensive international debts which were not managed properly. As an outcome, Ukraine is nowadays considered to be a heavy debtor and is threatened by default. Because of this, prevention of Ukraine`s state default and restructuring of Ukraine`s external debt are one of the crucial current tasks of the government.

The online resource EITI in Ukraine printed electronic forms for the mining companies to fill the first report on Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

In an article for the New Time, Ihor Burakovsky, economist and director of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER), stressed that the main threat to the agreement on debt restructuring is the bondholders worth $ 500 million that try to block the process, considering the unfavourable conditions which this agreement entails for them.
