18.06.2014, Brussels. Conference “Launching Reforms Agenda in Ukraine: Common Efforts of the Government and Civil Society”
On the 18th June 2014, the Ukrainian Think Tanks Liaison Office in Brussels in cooperation with the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) and the Reforms Support Centre to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine held a conference on the reform agenda in Ukraine. The event was supported by the International Renaissance Foundation and the Mission of Canada to the European Union organised a conference on the common efforts of the Ukrainian government and civil society to launch a reforms agenda for the country. During the conference, experts shared reform related success stories such as adoption of the laws on public broadcasting and on public procurement, on restoring confidence in the judiciary, access to public information, etc. Special attention was also given to the reform agenda in the area of anti-corruption. It was noted that the main problem in this area is not the legislation but enforcement. Experts also encouraged EU attach specific conditions and benchmarks in all agreements and financial aid to the Ukrainian government and check fulfilment of the taken obligations.
The event attracted about 90 participants – representatives of think tanks and political foundations, EU officials, diplomats from EU Member States, journalists.
