28.05.2014, Brussels. Expert discussion “The Presidential Elections in Ukraine: Preliminary Results and Expectations”

On the 28th May 2014, within the expert meetings series “Reforms Agenda for Ukraine”, the Ukrainian Think Tanks Liaison Office in Brussels, in cooperation with the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, held a discussion on the results of the Presidential elections in Ukraine and their impact on the domestic and foreign policies of Ukraine.

During discussion the experts agreed that despite very difficult situation in the East and in Crimea Ukraine passed the democracy test by holding fair elections in compliance with all international standards. Ukrainian people also showed their unity by choosing the President in the first round. Speakers agreed that Ukraine has a very complicated road ahead and a lot is expected from Poroshenko, most of all, that he will be able to stop the war and deliver long awaited reforms. They also expect the EU to help Ukraine on this road, because without its assistance Ukraine has a very little chance to succeed.

The event attracted about 90 participants – representatives of think tanks and political foundations, EU officials, diplomats from EU Member States and journalists.
