Results of two years of the language law: successes and failures
A nationwide survey was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation jointly with the Center for Political Sociology on February 16-27, 2021. A total of 2003 respondents were interviewed in a sample representing the adult population of Ukraine (excluding the occupied territories). This sample is representative of the adult population and takes into account gender, age, the type of settlement, and the region. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.2%.
The data of a survey conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation jointly with the sociological service of the Razumkov Centre on August 14-19, 2020 are given for comparison.
The majority of Ukrainian citizens in all regions share the fundamental principles of the state language policy in Ukraine. A poll conducted in August 2020 showed that the majority of Ukrainians in all regions support the thesis that all citizens of Ukraine should be able to speak the state language, Ukrainian should be the language of communication of civil servants and officials, and most subjects in all public schools should be taught in the state language.
