Round table “Ukraine’s sectoral integration into the EU: preconditions, prospects, challenges”

On 26 January 2021, the Razumkov Centre together with the Representation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine organised a round table “Ukraine’s sectoral integration into the EU: preconditions, prospects, challenges”.
The participants of the round table were greeted by the Head of the Adenauer Foundation Representation in Ukraine Tim Peters and the President of the Razumkov Centre Yuriy Yakymenko. Mr. Peters stressed the urgency and importance of effective promotion of Ukraine on the European path. Mr. Yakymenko outlined the priority directions, ways, and prospects of sectoral cooperation between Kyiv and Brussels.
During the event, experts from the Razumkov Centre, Co-director of Foreign Relations and International Security Programmes M. Pashkov and Scientific Consultant on Economic Issues V. Sidenko presented the publication of the Razumkov Centre on the problems of sectoral integration of Ukraine-EU. The publication contains an analytical report, a series of interviews with government officials and independent experts, the results of the expert survey, and several articles from international experts.
The following issues were discussed during the round table:
- European integration 2020: trends, achievements, problems. New challenges and new priorities for cooperation between Kyiv and Brussels during the global pandemic.
- Preconditions, ways of activation, and prospects of sectoral integration of Ukraine into the EU. What priority areas of European integration can become the “locomotives” of Ukraine’s rapid socio-economic development?
- Update of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement: needs, expectations, chances. Interests of the state, national business, and civil society.
The Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union I. Klympush-Tsintsadze, Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine – Trade Representative of Ukraine T. Kachka, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for European Integration A. Petrenko, Director of the Directorate-General for the European Union and NATO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine M. Mykhaylenko attended the discussion.
President of the Centre for Global Studies “Strategy XXI” M. Honchar, Deputy Director of the Analytical Research Department of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine O. Kulyk, Director of Research of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting V. Movchan, Director of the European Program of the International Renaissance Foundation D. Shulga, Chairman of the Board of Experts of the Center for Army Research, Conversion and Disarmament Studies L. Polyakov, Leading Expert of Economic and Social Programmes of the Razumkov Centre K. Markevich also expressed their assessments and opinions on the issues submitted for discussion.
