Russian War Against Ukraine: Energy Dimension (Status as of April 22)


DiXi Group has prepared its next alert on the energy dimension of the Russian war against Ukraine.

  • The enemy continued to increase its offensive actions. App. 749,400 consumers remained without electricity supply, over 236,000 consumers remained without gas supply.
  • After a nuclear power plant was attacked for the first time in world history (Zaporizhzhya NPP), a flight of three missiles was observed right over the South Ukraine NPP site, which is another act of Russia’s nuclear terrorism.
  • Day-ahead and intraday markets currently occupy a relatively small share of the electricity market in Ukraine – a total of 5% to 10% of electricity is traded in these segments, as compared to total consumption.
  • The President established the National Council for Recovery of Ukraine from the consequences of war, which should develop a relevant plan, identify reform priorities, and prepare strategic initiatives.
  • The Verkhovna Rada increased by 200 billion UAH spending from the reserve fund on the needs of defense and internally displaced persons, respectively increasing the planned levels of public debt and budget deficit.
