Russian War Against Ukraine: Energy Dimension (Status as of May 23)


DiXi Group has prepared its next alert on the energy dimension of the Russian war against Ukraine.

  •  App. 665,900 consumers all over Ukraine did not have electricity supply, and over 160,000 consumers remained without gas supply.
  • Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko warned about the risks of complete suspension of gas supply in the region due to constant shelling and blocking one of the main gas supply nodes in the Luhansk region by occupiers. The Luhansk Regional Military Administration Head Serhii Haidai informed that the occupiers damaged a 1,200 mm gas pipeline, resulting in a pressure drop from 15 to 5 atmospheres. Repairs have been impossible due to active hostilities.
  • The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified agreements on guarantees between Ukraine and the World Bank for an investment project to install hybrid energy storage systems at Ukrhydroenergo facilities. The 211 million USD loan raised from the World Bank and the Clean Technology Fund will be used to install 197 MW of lithium-ion energy storage systems to provide ancillary services (frequency and power regulation) and 15 MW of storage to charge local urban transport. In addition, 63.9 MW of solar photovoltaic facilities shall be installed for the own consumption of hydropower and pumped hydropower stations and for charging the storage systems.
